Mid Year Changes

Life happens and sometimes you experience an event that will affect your benefit coverage. In these situations, you can make changes to your benefits without waiting for the Open Enrollment period. These events are called Qualified Life Events (or QLE) and they include the following:

  • Marriage
  • Start of domestic partnership
  • Divorce, legal separation, annulment
  • End of domestic partnership
  • Birth, adoption, placement of a child for adoption or foster care
  • Loss or gain of coverage for spouse/domestic partner
  • Loss or gain of coverage for dependent child
  • Death of domestic partner, dependent spouse or child
  • Change in your employment status or that of your spouse, domestic partner or dependent child

If you experience any of these events, you have 31 calendar days to make changes to your benefits. Under IRS rules, if you don’t make changes within that 31 day period you will need to wait until the next open enrollment period.
